About once a week while sifting through all the various news and rumors in the video game realm, I come across yet another person or organization speculating on when the next gen consoles will be released. WHY? The saddest part is I remember just a week after the Wii was first launched, someone asked. "Has Nintendo announced when the next console will be launched? Some people thought they didn't know that the Wii was already launched, but this person said they didn't mean the Wii." They honestly were already expecting news on the next console. And already even big companies are starting to talk about it, and I dont mean 3rd party companies which need to know far in advance. I'm talking about various news and business organizations.
First of all they come up with stupid names for the next gen consoles. (with the exception of PS4 as we all know SONY has no imagination) But why would Microsoft call their next console the "Xbox720"? and what's with Wii 2? has Nintendo EVER added a number to the name of a console when releasing a new generation console? NO.
But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Why is so much time and effort being wasted on speculating on the next generation, when this generation is just starting to get up to steam?
I believe that the current generation of game consoles still has a lot to offer us fans, both in games and in features. The fact that all 3 systems accept updates through the internet, this should greatly increase the consoles longevity. Not to mention that us consumers would much rather continue buying games and getting updates on our current systems, than to have to shell out another large chunk of cash for another brand new system, and then have to start all over again dealing with the new bugs and glitches.
Unless the next gen is going to add something totally new to the picture, like real virtual reality, or some other form of 3D interaction. It seems the biggest concern for all these people and companies is getting prettier images. Do we really need new consoles when all they are going to offer us new is just better graphics? Stop worrying about graphics and concentrate more on game play and controls, If all I wanted was pretty graphics I would just rent a DVD and watch it anyway. I believe that the current systems are completely capable of satisfying out gaming needs. And if not, well I doubt those people will ever be satisfied anyway.
For most of us, Money is scarce, I dont want to worry about having to upgrade to all new consoles already. especially when my current consoles still haven't reached their full potential yet.
This is just my personal opinions, but I'm willing to bet their are others who are satisfied with their games and systems and aren't in a hurry to spend more cash for whole new consoles. lol
