I am curious if there will be a special event that lets you enter the lighthouse or windmill like on the original AC game. (you got to turn on the lighthouse for a week, while Tortimer was on vacation.)
If I had the game I would probably go for the Windmill since I already have a lighthouse in my original game that I still play on occasion. heh heh

I want the windmill because I already had a lighthouse in the GameCube version. I'm trying to donate money as fast as possible to get the windmill. But I just did get the bridge. And they put it in a horribly un-useful place. I had 2 choices and they both were awful. Very disappointing.

I donated another 200,000 hoping to get another bridge but have not heard anything yet, that was over 1 week ago. Anyone know if you really can get more bridges after the first one?

You have to add an 'Avatar' on your profile to have a picture under your name. As for what the Windmill and the Lighthouse do.
I have been told that the Windmill boosts your 'town rating' which is handy if you are going for a perfect town.
The Lighthouse supposedly improves the odds of catching rarer fish.
Of course trying to prove either of these things is next to impossible but that is the way with many things in the Animal Crossing games. lol
